Section 1 of Line 1 (Nokdong Station ~ Sangmu Station) opened on April 28, 2004, and Section 2 (Kimdaejung Convention Center ~ Pyeongdong Station) opened on April 11, 2008. Line 1 is operated by Gwangju Transportation Corporation.
